Addressing Mental Health In The Fire Service Is An All-Hands Operation

Tim Tharp reflects on his journey from his childhood in a fire hall to a successful career in the fire service, where he spent over 30 years serving as a battalion chief paramedic in Prince George’s County, MD. Despite facing personal challenges—including three marriages, career changes, and rehab—Tim's path has always led him back to his roots in firefighting. His story highlights resilience, growth, and the deep bond he shares with his community and fellow first responders. Now, after retiring from active duty, he is focused on improving mental health and wellness for first responders. Tim believes his experiences have shaped his true calling and are vital to the work he does today.
